States Coast Guard
History of the United States Coast Guard?
So I have been on several websites with the history of the Coast Guard, but it has a huge gap between their 1790 times as "cutters" and becoming their own branch. I KNOW they where linked with the navy but I can't find it. It is beginning to get frustrating. Anyone who was or is in the coast guard or just knows alot about it the history please share! I have to do a presentation on it tomorrow, I have everything down but this! Thanks!!!
The Revenue Service (or Revenue Cutter Service/RCS) was formed in 1789, with the first cutter being launched in 1790. The Lighthouse Service was also formed around the same time... as was the Lifesaving service. The Steamship Inspection Service was formed in 1864. All of these organizations had their own agencies that oversaw their operations. The International Ice Patrol was founded in 1912
In 1915, Congress consolidated some of these organizations and wrapped them up together under the Department of the Treasury, then over the next 40 years or so, the other organizations (and others) were added in and we were transfered to the Department of Transportation.
In 2003, we were transfered to the Department of Homeland Security.

i would love to join the uscg more than anything and my goal is to become a rescue swimmer in district 17 (alaska) there is nothing that i want more in this world, but i'm curious as to how hard or easy it wil be to be stationed there. idk, do alot of people ask to be stationed there? are there any open positions?
