Key Date Beauty

Possible move to San Antonio: seeking info on nightlife, entertainment, recreation, date places, etc.?

San Antonio appeals to me because of the beauty of the Riverwalk and its seemingly charming people. That said, I know I'd probably get bored with the Riverwalk pretty quickly, especially in a city like SA with so much to do. I also like the close proximity to Austin (another great city,) but I'd rather focus on the positives of my new hometown.

Oh, now that's just not nice what your first writer wrote. Listen, San Antonio is beautiful, historic and loved by many. It is near the hill country, the coast and close enough to attend events in Austin and Houston, but not have to deal with the growth that way. Live on the Northside around the 1604 area anywhere from Seaworld to I35 is fine. Alamo Heights area is also very nice, and it is closer to downtown. I like Monte Vista as well, but I wouldn't send my kids to public schools in that area. Entertainment we have plenty and history buffs love our city. We have great shopping at North Star and La Cantera and lots of nice colleges and universities. It is hot here. We never get snow, well, rarely, and if we do, it doesn't last. The travel channel listed us in the top ten for sunshine with 80% of the time having sunshine. The most beautiful time of the year is late fall through spring because there it is cooler and sunshine drifts in and out like a fog. Most of the time it's in the 70's durng this time period. Fiesta received an award for the 7th straight year as the number one holiday party in Texas. I hope you enjoy our city. I have lived here off and on for 30 years. More on than off. I like to travel and have lived all over, but always am glad to come home to San Antonio and I love it here.

What Tax & NI will I pay on 2 jobs?

Hi, I have a full-time job, but setting up my own business too for the evenings & weekends in beauty to earn additional £££ I have enrolled on a setting up your own business course with the Inland Revenue, but am really worried about tax & NI on 2 jobs, are there any perks back from the Inland Revenue? and what are key dates when I need to pay the tax man for my 'business', lots of questions here, but am wondering if it's worth it, or if I'll be even more skint?! Thanks to anyone who can answer this one!!

You are allowed to earn £6035 before you are taxed so it's more than likely that your job is using up all your tax free allowance, therefore any profits on your business will be taxed at 20%. You will need to pay Class 2 NI of about £2.35 a week unless your business profit is below £5k or so in which case you can claim exemption. If your profits are above £11k or thereabouts, you will pay Nat.Ins. as well as tax on it. You do your accounts up to 5th April if self employed, fill out a Tax Return and the tax man will tell you how much tax you are due. Then you pay it and half the following year's tax by 31st January and the rest at 31 July. So if your tax is say £600, then you will pay £900 by 31st Jan. and £300 by 31 July as they always charge you the same tax for the following year and adjust it once they have your tax return. You could chose to be a limited company but that costs more and you will need an accountant and you will have to register at Companies House and pay more!!!
