Enamel Lapel

Where can I take 16,000 lapel pins made of hard enamel, and cloisonné, with gold plating to be recycled?
It would be extremely helpful if the recycling location is in the Los Angeles and much better if we could get some money in return. This is for a non-profit organization.
What is the primary base metal they are made of? brass? lead? other?
If you know what the base metal is, you can take it to most metal recyclers and they will pay you the going rate for the base metal.
If they take it in a breakage, this is only a few cents a pound, but it will get reprocessed.

Lot Assorted

I inherited a ton of assorted appliques from a friend and I am searching for ideas what to do with them?
They aren't vintage, and there are a lot of dragonflies, flowers, hearts, fish, children related objects, school, etc....I haven't counted them, but there must be over 300 total!!! Any ideas what I could make with these would be helpful and appreciated! Thank you!
Proper use would depend on whether they are cloth, paper or sticker appliques. Any type though will have tons of uses. You can decoupage them onto cheap painted boxes and use the box as a gift container, make storage boxes with the appliques on them, decorate walls with them, make message centers and decorate with the apps. My suggestion is to use them to make gifts and gift packaging since you have so many. Scrap books is another place to use them also, and don't forget making greeting cards! Have fun with them!

What are the oval black and white car decals for?
I've noticed a lot of people driving around with black and white oval decals with assorted number and letter combos in the middle like these:
http://www.bumperstickermagnet.com/custom-oval-magnet.html
do these have some kind of meaning that i don't know of? they seem kind of ugly, why are they so popular?
Originally, these were used to indicate where a car is from, or where it has been (most common in Europe.) In the USA, these have become some sort of gimmick, just like any other bumper sticker.

Roll Fresh Choice

Experience using electric cigarette maker?
I roll my own cigarettes using a hand injector. I am thinking about purchasing an electric cigarette maker but have no input on the quality and ease of use. They range from $79 to $450. Two brands I have looked into are the Royale and Fresh Choice electric makers. Has anybody ever used an electric cigarette maker and can you tell me the pros and cons? Thanks.
It's a limewire dude.

Fresh Cream $7.94 Fresh Cream represents so many different firsts, it's difficult to keep count. Cream, of course, was the first supergroup, but their first album not only gave birth to the power trio, it also was instrumental in the birth of heavy metal and the birth of jam rock. That's a lot of weight for one record and, like a lot of pioneering records, Fresh Cream doesn't seem quite as mighty as what would come later, both from the group and its acolytes. In retrospect, the moments on the LP that are a bit unformed -- in particular, the halting waltz of "Dreaming" never achieves the sweet ethereal atmosphere it aspires to -- stand out more than the innovations, which have been so thoroughly assimilated into the vocabulary of rock & roll, but Fresh Cream was a remarkable shift forward in rock upon its 1966 release and it remains quite potent. Certainly at this early stage the trio was still grounded heavily in blues, only fitting given guitarist Eric Clapton's stint in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, which is where he first played with bassist Jack Bruce, but Cream never had the purist bent of Mayall, and not just because they dabbled heavily in psychedelia. The rhythm section of Bruce and Ginger Baker had a distinct jazzy bent to their beat; this isn't hard and pure, it's spongy and elastic, giving the musicians plenty of room to roam. This fluidity is most apparent on the blues covers that take up nearly half the record, especially on "Spoonful," where the swirling instrumental interplay, echo, fuzz tones, and overwhelming volume constitute true psychedelic music, and also points strongly toward the guitar worship of heavy metal. Almost all the second side of Fresh Cream is devoted to this, closing with Baker's showcase "Toad," but for as hard and restless as this half of the album is, there is some lightness on the first portion of the record where Bruce reveals himself as an inventive psychedelic pop songwriter with the tense, colorful "N.S.U." and the hook- and harmony-laden "I Feel Free." Cream shows as much force and mastery on these tighter, poppier tunes as they do on the free-flowing jams, yet they show a clear bias toward the long-form blues numbers, which makes sense: they formed to be able to pursue this freedom, which they do so without restraint. If at times that does make the album indulgent or lopsided, this is nevertheless where Cream was feeling their way forward, creating their heavy psychedelic jazz-blues and, in the process, opening the door to all kinds of serious rock music that may have happened without Fresh Cream, but it just would not have happened in the same fashion as it did with this record as precedent. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi Performers: Eric Clapton - Vocals, Guitar; Ginger Baker - Vocals, Drums; |

Fresh Berry's $43.99 Chuck Berry's last album for Chess, for the next four years, has him back in the U.S., and running smack into the mid-'60s blues revival, playing with the likes of Paul Butterfield and Mike Bloomfield (who were beginning a brief but productive association with Muddy Waters around this time). The material varies from first-rate songs ("It Wasn't Me," "My Mustang Ford," "Ain't That Just Like a Woman") that sound utterly contemporary, to fascinating experiments ("One for My Baby") and filler like "Everyday We Rock and Roll" and "Merrily We Rock and Roll." He still rocks out, and sounds like he's having a great time playing blues with Bloomfield and Butterfield ("Sad Day-Long Night" etc.), sounding like an old Chicago bluesman, which, ironically, was the direction he chose to go in during his subsequent four-year stint with Mercury Records. He still does some straight rock & roll -- "It's My Own Business" is a great teen rebellion number -- and occasionally indulges his taste for music from the islands ("Run Joe"), in what was essentially an era-closing album, and his last attempt at making a contemporary album with his established sound. Berry's next step was four years of neglect, followed by his rediscovery as an "oldies" act. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi |

Fresh Cream [Japan] $40.79 Fresh Cream represents so many different firsts, it's difficult to keep count. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi Performers: Eric Clapton - Vocals, Guitar; Ginger Baker - Drums, Vocals; |

Roll, Truck, Roll $10.38 Red Simpson's first album of truck songs is a classic, and a fresh, rousing, unpretentious look at the joy, adventure, and loneliness of the road. The title song, authored by Tommy Collins, is the best and most serious song here, with a lot of heart in the writing and in the performance by Simpson -- who speaks part of it with an honesty that a lot of actors would kill to capture in their work -- and it was a Top 40 country hit. Not everything here comes close to the complexity of that number -- there might to one too many songs about drivin' big ol' trucks wherever -- but numbers like "Nitro Express" and (natch) "Six Days on the Road" keep a good beat, and "Truck Driver's Blues," living up to its promise, is a slow honky-tonk number. Hearing this record again after a lot of years, one is sort of sorry that Red Simpson never got together with, say, Commander Cody on an album. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi Performers: Red Simpson - Vocals, Guitar |

Roll Away $13.58 Who would have thought the guy who sang "money for nothing and your chicks for free" could inspire a kid to grow up and become one of the most promising bluesmen of his generation -- at the tender age of 20? The listener doesn't need to know the back story of this slamming, high-intensity Isle of Man-based blues-rock trio led by multi-talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist Davy Knowles to be inspired by the band's blistering excitement. But like all tales of great blues makers, origins are important, so here goes: at age 11, Knowles was in the car with his father and heard Dire Straits' "Sultans of Swing," which changed his life and put him on a mission to explore Dad's vast record collection. This included John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, and Rory Gallagher. Then Knowles started listening to their influences, soaking up Blind Willie Johnson and Robert Johnson. Back Door Slam's in-your-face debut rumbles out of the gate with the rollicking rocker "Come Home," a perfect intro to Knowles' crisply sizzling licks and gruff, wise, and pained-beyond-his-years vocals. The slow-burning "Heavy on My Mind" is the song Clapton wishes he wrote, with Knowles completely capturing the legend's vibe and intensity while bringing fresh invention to that style. After another edgy jam session ("Outside Woman Blues"), Back Door Slam simmer down ever so slightly for the gently percolating "Gotta Leave," which gives Knowles a chance to express the deeper emotion of his artistry. And the sparse, acoustic guitar-driven "Stay" and the title track are a fine examples of his strong emotional songwriting without much adornment or backup. Other tracks like "Too Late" and "Too Good for Me" have country-rock crossover potential while never letting listeners forget they're listening to a true blues heart. Back Door Slam are the second solid discovery Blix Street has made in the last decade; the label's first, the late songbird Eva Cassidy, became a posthumous sensation in the U.K. before touching millions in the U.S. Back Door Slam also have the potential to be successful on both sides of the pond. ~ Jonathan Widran, Rovi Performers: 'Lucy's Dad' - Cello; Christine Collister - Vocals (Background); Christy D. - Vocals (Background); Christy DeHaven - Vocals (Background); Dave Cain - Vocals (Background); Davy Knowles - Vocals (Background); Joe Carter Hawkins - Vocals (Background); |

Roll On $15.98 Taking note from their number one Australian debut in 1998, the ARIA awards, and spots on Vans' Warped Tour, The Living End grow up, but continue to rampage on with their rowdy punkabilly on Roll On. Not entirely relying on the spirit of 1977 punk rock, their sophomore effort pulls toward their Aussie rock roots (AC/DC, Rose Tattoo) and a touch of British class for an eager modification, and it's a smart move. The trio's momentous energy remains the same, and the fever exuded through spiraling guitar cuts and rebellious lyrical chants illustrates The Living End's pinch-hitting desire to make their punk-oriented sound less commercial, less kitschy, and more stripped. Frontman/guitarist Chris Cheney is vocally sharp, the spunk and snarl on songs like "Don't Shut the Gate" and "Riot on Broadway" are lyrically tighter, consciously aware and almost wishful. The Living End don't hold back, but explore musical chaos for a tangled hybrid of sounds. Elements of Oi! and ska placates the post-pubescent attitude found on the band's eponymous debut, and the band looks beyond the simplicity of most three-cord riffs. The souped-up "Dirty Man" could have been a Smiths song, humorously tapping into the softer side of The Living End, while tailoring toward the Ritalin-reliant spool of pop kids. "Revolution Regained" has the same effect, and Scott Owen's upright bass and Trav Dempsey's thunderous percussion takes shape as Roll On's rambunctious staple song. The majority of the album is slightly that way, the whole battle cry and infliction of defeat is old-school regardless of The Living End striving for such raw power and self-independence. It's far more fashionable than Green Day's typical quick rants. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi |
