Lexington and Concord was in Masschusetts: It was the shot heard around the world. It was first engagement between America and the british.
Bunker Hill was a loss for the Americans, This lost them New York. It was also when George Washington knew he would have to train the troops more. It was also a slaughter for the American army.
Saratoga was a win for the americans, also in New York, it was the first time the americans won against the bristish under Benedict Arnold.
Valley Forge, PA. This the place that Americans first heard Tom Paine's pamphlet Common Sense. It charged a rather belleger american army. It was a place of good and bad things. Good because the american army recieved vital training from Baron Von Stubbing. It made them an effective fighting force. They learned discipline, like what the british had.
Yorktown, Virginia. It was another win for the US. It was the place where Cornwallis surrendered to the commanders fighting in the south. It was the beginning of the end for the british. It was the first navel battle in which the french navy participated.
Ohio river goes between the ohio and joines the Mississippi river right in Ohio and Illinois area. It was the area of land that the British did not want the colonists to settle, after the indian wars in the mid eighteenth century. George Washington was a commander in Ohio under the british army. Under the British way of doing things, George Washington being born in the colonies could never get a commission in the british army, which is what he wanted.

How do I start?
Become an aide to a Republican or Democratic Party official.
Watch him or her carefully and learn the techniques.
Work your way up through the ranks. If you are a Republican, pick some minority and spend all of your time talking against them. Do your best to mobilize the rest of the population against them as a scapegoat for all their problems. If you are a Democrat, pick some disadvantaged group and introduce a program that you can pretend will help them, but take care to make certain that it won't really help.
Over the years, have your opponents "outed," blackmailed, assassinated or just plain outspend them.
Eventually you will become president of the United States. You will then have the platform you need to fulfill your ambition.
However, I think you will find that there is so much competition to be the one to fulfill this ambition (in both parties), that you are unlikely to succeed.

Anybody got any good free date ideas?
At the moment, I am incredibly broke. I don't want it to keep me from taking my girlfriend out and doing something enjoyable though. She loves dancing (she's a long time dance student), music, movies, astronomy (we already do the stargazing thing), cats, fashion, different cultures, among other things. Even though I like to believe I have a very vivid imagination, I am realistic enough to know that most every possible date is gonna cost at least something. But, maybe someone out there has some suggestions for very cheap--and if possible--free dates.
Oh, and we already do the at-home movie watching thing a loooot. The museum costs money too, and we've seen all the exhibits there. I like a lot of these ideas though, except the "don't know" answers. Not much point to those. Thanks for the good ones.
going.com.....dude there is tons of free stuff out there...does your state have a science center? they usually have huge telescopes you can go use for free...there's actually a meteor shower due soon too...check your local magazines...we have creative loafing magazine here in atlanta and out and about in gainesville...try to google 'free stuff to do in...put your area code...or city name...you will be shocked...as a broke single mom i should know...my kids never know we don't have any $

But these are mere warm-up acts for two of the more memorable underground tracks in recent memory: the hilariously sharp "Millionaire," a slick, hip-hop parody of Regis Philbin's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire game show, and "Language Arts," a blazing combination of kabuki theater strings and Akira Kurosawa film aesthetic. While the album lapses occasionally with a couple of patches of redundant production, Date of Birth is a strong follow-up from a crew who keep it real by nature. ~ M.F. Blind Date $15.18 When it comes to jazz, some dogmatic individuals suffer from an either/or mentality. They might assume that if you are playing bop at all, you are a rigid purist who would never dreaming of touching an electric bass -- or, dogmatists might assume that if you have any connection to the avant-garde, you must be playing the most extreme free jazz. But in reality, things aren't nearly so black and white. There are shades of gray in jazz, and Loren Stillman points to some of them on Blind Date. This 2006 recording, which finds the alto saxophonist offering original material exclusively, is neither an example of retro-boppers playing Charlie Parker standards nor an exercise in atonal chaos; Stillman, rather, keeps his options open and provides an album that is mildly avant-garde but not radically avant-garde. One of the strongest influences on Stillman's alto playing is Lee Konitz, but Blind Date never sounds like cool jazz -- not at all. Instead, Stillman shows some appreciation of Konitz in his tone but delivers inside/outside material that has one foot in post-bop and the other in jazz's avant-garde. But even on Blind Date's most outside solos, Stillman is never heavy-handed or confrontational; when Stillman goes outside, his solos bring to mind the reflective, pensive AACM school of avant-garde playing rather than the ferocious, dense, scorching atonality one expects from a free jazz firebrand like Charles Gayle. Cheap Date $6.38 Cheap Date is a discount-priced label sampler that gives an indication of the new rock bands Columbia Records had in the pipeline as of early 2003. Not surprising for a major label, the crop sounds a lot like the kind of rock that has been successful in recent years. The performers range from garage rockers to heavy metal bands, with not much that sounds new or different. "Breathing" by Stereomud and "Nothing Sacred" by Memento are familiar late-'90s, early-2000s metal. Kenna's "Freetime" reveals a band with more of a synthesizer sound. Liverpool's the Coral on "Dreaming of You" sound different from the others, but not really new; they hew back to a '60s sound with a prominent organ on a song that, with a nudge, would turn into the Supremes' "My World Is Empty Without You." Porch Ghouls' "Bluff City Ruckus" and the Raveonettes' "Attack of the Ghost Riders" come straight from a garage. The Mooney Suzuki seem to have been listening to MC5, since their "In a Young Man's Mind" is a thinly veiled rewrite of the proto-punk classic "Kick out the Jams." And Overseer's "Screw Up" closes the proceedings with a dash of electronica. Maybe these are the bands of the future, but they sound an awful lot like the bands of the past. The only one that really stands out as more than a genre exercise is the Ataris, whose "In This Diary" boasts clever lyrics, giving them the chance to join Wheatus among the better young rock bands around. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi |

Better Place $40.79 Darren Jack - Better Place Hot on the heels of Darren's previous acoustic album, Solo Sessions, we are treated to that familiar electric sound we all know and love on his latest, Better Place. Helping Jacko reach that special place are Rosscoe Clark and Terepai Richmond on drums, Pat Savina and Sean Rudd, sharing bass duties and Sam Boyd on Hammond, Wurlitzer and piano. With eight of the eleven tracks written by Jacko, we can immerse ourselves in his broadening song writing skills, along with those magic guitar licks and matured vocal style. The title track, Better Place, is a slow paced ballad describing the inevitable longing for, and finding, the comfort and fulfilment of home and family. Something I would say Jacko found some years ago, which shows the contrast between his Third Degree days to this more mature presentation of the blues. Hey, I love both, but it's great to listen to the transition, while appreciating the former! Don't panic - Jacko returns to his rockin' best on track 3 with an Anson Funderburgh classic; Ways of a Man. Searing riffs weave their magic in and around some powerful vocals. The remaining two covers are the Cream number, I'm So Glad and another of Jacko's favourite artists; Chris Whitley with Say Goodbye. The pace is slowed down with a beautiful ballad on track 4; Don't Worry with Cara Robinson making an appearance with those sweet vocals to complement Jacko's. Tracks 6, 7 and 8 keep us mesmerised with some smooth playing and vocals before we head into a familiar rockin/shuffle boogie with What's the Hurry. How beautiful is track 10 - You Free Me. Cara makes a reappearance to help Jacko lull us into a trance with some beautiful harmonising and mellow guitar playing. Could be my favourite. Keeping us in this pleasantly lulled state, is the closing track, You Will Find; helping us to "find that perfect place". I think we found it with Better Place; great production, great band, and one of Oz's top guitarist/singer/songwriters doing what he was placed on this earth to do; entertain us with his heart and soul - and some damn fine guitar playing! |
