States Coast Guard
History of the United States Coast Guard?
So I have been on several websites with the history of the Coast Guard, but it has a huge gap between their 1790 times as "cutters" and becoming their own branch. I KNOW they where linked with the navy but I can't find it. It is beginning to get frustrating. Anyone who was or is in the coast guard or just knows alot about it the history please share! I have to do a presentation on it tomorrow, I have everything down but this! Thanks!!!
The Revenue Service (or Revenue Cutter Service/RCS) was formed in 1789, with the first cutter being launched in 1790. The Lighthouse Service was also formed around the same time... as was the Lifesaving service. The Steamship Inspection Service was formed in 1864. All of these organizations had their own agencies that oversaw their operations. The International Ice Patrol was founded in 1912
In 1915, Congress consolidated some of these organizations and wrapped them up together under the Department of the Treasury, then over the next 40 years or so, the other organizations (and others) were added in and we were transfered to the Department of Transportation.
In 2003, we were transfered to the Department of Homeland Security.

what are my chances of being stationed at the Kodiak Alaska united states coast guard base? any open spots? ?
i would love to join the uscg more than anything and my goal is to become a rescue swimmer in district 17 (alaska) there is nothing that i want more in this world, but i'm curious as to how hard or easy it wil be to be stationed there. idk, do alot of people ask to be stationed there? are there any open positions?

Is there really such a thing as an American sword?
Is there really such a thing as an American-type sword, or did we just borrow alot from other countries?
If so, then is that alright?
You know, America came around near the end of sword evolution and warfare. No new innovations were required, and therefore, did not appear. If there is a sword, it would be the sabre, used as a symbol by the Millitary. I don't what's wrong with having a borrowed design, especially in a country that never put very much pride or large-scale symbollism in it's signature sword.

question says it all? so is it?
i mean do u need to own a license for it?
Some towns and cities have laws as to the length of a blade you can have at parks and stuff, some have laws against "conceiled" weapons, so you can't keep it hidden in a sword bag, but must walk with it in the open. Check your locality.

Complaints about religious content have led to...?
The U.S. government has banned the flag-folding recitations at all 125 national cemeteries. The banning came as the result of one complaint. The situation is similar to that in which one person removed prayer from schools.
This article from The Associated Press explains the situation:
Complaints about religious content have led to a ban on flag-folding recitations by Veterans Administration employees and volunteers at all national cemeteries.
At thousands of military burials, VA volunteers have folded the American flag 13 times and recited the significance of each fold to survivors. The 11th fold glorifies "the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” The 12th glorifies "God the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost."
Citing a need for uniformity, the National Cemetery Administration has prohibited unpaid VA volunteers as well as employees from conducting the recital at all 125 national cemeteries.

A government that shows preference to no religion is best for everyone including theists.
Of all the questions posted here this type is by far the most disheartening. Especially now the danger of a particular religion having too much influence on government should be obvious.
Prayer has not been "removed" from schools. Students are free to pray as much as they like so long as it does not disturb class. School led prayer is thankfully gone just as it should be.
Do you truly want to live in a country where the dominant religion makes the decisions? Can you not see the danger in the precedent? If tomorrow the dominant religion were Scientology and the 12th fold glorified Xenu would you argue in favor of that also? And would you welcome back school led prayer if it were to Xenu and not god?

Final Honors- Flag folding
Price for something i have?
I have an American flag folded by the U.S.A.F. that wa flown over Iraq after they secured a piece of the country. The flag was flown by an Air Force commander in a fighter jet who was engaged by a SAM Site. Upon avoiding the missile he then destroyed the SAM Site and a flag was flown over the area. Now the cool part is that my step father was able to get the commander to fly the flag in my name and I have an authentic, signed by the commander, certificate that tells why the flag was flown and where exactly. I was curious as to how much something like this could go for.
it's hard to place a value on items like this.
if a person really wants it the sky is the limit.
the only thing you can do is check auction sites for previous sales and set your own estimate. ebay is the most popular.
