State Flags and Banners - Michigan
The state of Michigan is one of 50 states in the U.S.A. Located in the northeastern area of United States or the Great-Lake Region, the state of Michigan is known for various reasons, including the technological industry! Modern and historical flags of all kinds, including big flags, fly from residential and commercial type flag poles throughout the state.
Michigan's neighboring state, Ohio, is one of the only flags of the world that is non-rectangular in shape. Michigan's flag is shaped more traditionally, in other words, rectangular. The flag displays a blue colored field, with the state's coat of arms in the center of the banner. These elements and other (details) were determined years ago and are also described by law. The state flag of Michigan flies beautifully from aluminum, steel and fiberglass flagpoles throughout the United States.
The state's coat of arms (Michigan) is shown on the respective state banner. The coat of arms includes a blue colored shield. The shield itself shows an individual with one arm raised, and the other lowered, the hand holding a rifle. The individual, a man, is standing along a shoreline. Also displayed are both an elk and a moose, animals commonly found in this wonderful state. Like the coat of arms of the United States, this one also displays the Bald Eagle, representing our Nation.
According to a survey held by NAVA, the state flag of Michigan is considered, or better said, rated as fifty-ninth out of seventy-two flags considered. Regardless of what this number was and may possibly be, inhabitants of this wonderful territory fly their respective flag proudly from flag poles and other such objects.
The American Bald Eagle was officially adopted as the (unofficial) recognition of the U.S. back in 1782. Official acceptance did not come till a good 6 years later, following much discussion and debate by the political leaders in those days. Like the Michigan state flag, the Bald Eagle is shown on a variety of flags, and can be seen flying from commercial and residential flagpoles in our day. It was not till 1907 that the state flag of Michigan displayed the U.S. coat of arms, following some years where it displayed the portrait of the then sitting Governor.

The National Cuban Flag
Not too long ago I was roaming an airport in Europe and noticed an international flight to the city of Havana, the capital of the country / island of Cuba. I don't know much about Cuba other than it has had a challenging relationship with the United States. I am aware of their respective flag, which has been adopted more than 100 years ago, in 1902. Ever since it has been hoisted on residential and commercial flag poles throughout the island.
The flag design itself displays three horizontal bands that are each colored in the same blue shade color. Also, 2 white horizontal bands are displayed in between the 3 blue bands. A so called red "equilateral" triangle at the hoist side of the flag features a white star.
The Cuba flag is one of many historical flags and has been hoisted on all kind of flag poles and such for more than 100 years. Before adoption of the official flag, for a short period of time the United States flag was flown before independence was officially granted. At the time some thought that the white Cuban star would join the Stars and Stripes. This obviously never happened.
Interestingly, the island's geographical location or position is illustrated in the state coat of arms. The key to the Gulf of Mexico, Cuba is in the Tropic of Cancer (the sun), between the state of Florida and the Yucatan peninsula. The bundle of rods and the Phrygian cap above the shield are symbols or representations of authority and liberty. The palm tree stands for fertility of the earth. And, the national colors, a branch of oak, and a branch of laurel also appear in the coat of arms of the state.
Following seizure of Cuba by the Americans from the Spanish back in 1899, it took another year or two before independence was granted to Cuba. During May of 1902, the national Cuban flag was hoisted on residential and commercial flag poles as an official symbol of independence and it has flown ever since. The design of the flag has remained unchanged, even during the times of the Cuban Revolution during the 50's (the exact year being 1959).
