i am going there to study for about five years and i will be alone there. i can't live abroad without my namibian flag, it inspires me everyday i looks at it and helps to not to forget my motherland. it will also reminds me of everything about my country and encourages me in other ways to focus on what i have to do. my dad told me when i was Young that i should be patriotic and proud of my country because it is where i was born and there are those who sacrificed their lives to liberate our country.
i am not gonna fly it in the campus or something, just put it in my room. is it illegal there?

Flying any any flag you want is covered under the First Amendment (freedom of speech). So please bring it! The U.S. Constitution protects everyone here, even those here for school or vacation (even illegal aliens). I think you should fly it and tell people about it and your country. Just be respectful of the U.S. flag, (personally I would suggest flying your flag and the U.S. flag together, most people will like it, don't fly yours above ours, fly them at the same level, if you want to show your patriotism, put your flag to the right of the U.S. flag, that is the place of honor, but if they are at the same level it would not be disrespectful to the U.S. flag). Most Americans respect patriotism, I admire yours for your country!
PS I wasn't implying that you would show disrespect for the U.S. flag (I hope you didn't take my comment that way), I just wanted to point out proper flag etiquette (most Americans don't know it, so I would have done the same if someone asked about their state flag or an organizational flag, although in those cases I would not have advised to put those flags to the right of the U.S. flag). And as for the people who say stay in your country - these are the same people who complain that the rest of the world hates the U.S., I guess they don't realize that people coming here for education helps the world to understand us not hate us.
